One of the most common diseases is skin cancer, which is also one of the most hazardous. However, when detected and treated early, most skin cancers have a 99% of survival rate, and it’s very preventable!
Our skin is the largest and most visible organ in our body. We must teach our children how to protect themselves from sun damage and develop good habits that will help them avoid skin cancer and other UV-related illnesses in the future. Think about the products and actions you use today and how you may help your kid’s future with thorough sun protection
To help you know specifically what to practice, here are some sun safety tips that you may teach your children to keep them safe in the long run.
1. Use Sunscreen – Applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF30+ will protect your children from UVA and UVB rays, and remember to look for clean or cruelty-free options to lessen your impact.
2. Clothing – Wear clothing that will cover and protect you from the sun. Use clothing made from tightly woven cloth that offers SPF protection.
3. Stay Hydrated – Our bodies need water, and sun exposure can lead to dehydration, so we must stay hydrated. Ensure that fresh, chilled water, sports drinks, or 100% juice are ready and available to rehydrate your child during play
4. Avoid Tanning – If your child insists on tanning, consider using tinted sunscreen. Take note that any discoloration of your child’s skin is an indicator of sun damage, raising their chances of developing skin cancer.
5. Use Sunglasses- Eyes are vulnerable to UV damage even under low-light conditions. You can get your infant and young children sunglasses with elastic straps in addition to standard arms. To avoid breaking, look for durable or flexible eyewear for older children.
