Why Vacationing in the Smokies is a Good Idea

On Father’s Day this 2019, my family set on an amazing road trip. We said goodbye to baseball, to electronics, and hello to the mountains. We headed to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The mountains are a good 8.5 hour drive from our house. We left about 4 AM in the morning. Which by the way, if you’re traveling with kids, this is one of the best times to leave. Vacationing in the Smokies is a good idea!

Why is Vacationing in the Smokies a Good Idea?

The kids slept forever! We only made two stops the entire time on the trip there. I can say by the time we got  to where we were going, we were exhausted. We did get there a little early and our cabin wasn’t quite ready, so we went to the pool to cool off. Follow along as I tell you about our week in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Where did we stay?

Twelve years ago, when Ryan and I first got married, we stayed with a cabin company called Cabins of the Smokies. Since I was familiar with the company, I reached out to them to see if they would be interested in working with The Weaver Clan!

Of course, they said yes, who wouldn’t want to work with this fun family? Just kidding! But, in all seriousness, I was thrilled that they wanted to work with us!

Since I had stayed at this resort before, I knew it was going to be great and I wasn’t wrong. See, I told you vacationing in the Smokies is a good idea.

Gatlinburg Falls Resorts is also known as Cabins of the Smokies. It’s managed by Venture Resorts. Can I just give a quick shout out to the housekeeping staff? They worked really hard to make sure that our cabin was super clean. THANK YOU!

Walking into our cabin, the view was just breathtaking. If you go to Gatlinburg, you will be blown away by the all the beauty. We stayed in Cypress Lodge. Um, hello…this was one of the best cabins in the Smokies!

First of all, the layout of the cabin is amazing! We had 9 people in our party and there was room for many more.

When you walk in, you’re greeted by the gorgeous kitchen. From there you can go left to go upstairs where there are 4 very big master bedrooms awaiting you. Each bedroom has its own bathroom.

If you keep walking from the kitchen, you will enter into the living room. The living room was spacious and so was the dining room. Off the living room, there is a beautiful balcony. You can go out there to enjoy your morning coffee.

I instantly opened all the blinds and kept the mountainous view in sight at all times. You can’t even fathom the view from this balcony. It looks like a painting of some sort.

Arcade Games

At the end of the day, my kids wanted two things. An arcade and a hot tub and we got both. The bottom level had endless arcade games for the kids to play on.

Let’s not forget there was a movie room where my kids fell asleep almost every night. The bottom level was the kind of basement every midwesterner wished they had.

Whoever put this cabin together, hit the nail on the head with how to create an awesome game room.

Plus, the bunk beds were nice. The kids slept down there and I think I saw them once or twice a day.

Is a resort complete without a pool? Gatlinburg Falls Resort has an awesome pool! We spent about 50% of our time there. The weather was super warm, so you better believe we spent as much time there as possible.

There were days that we would go swimming 2-3 times a day. We’d finish off the nights by getting in the hot tub.

It’s safe to say that the pool made our stay even better! Without the pool my kids may not have survived the super hot week.

CUSTOMER SERVICE was on point

You will never meet a company that wants to make things right more than Gatlinburg Falls Resorts. We did have some hiccups, but they worked super hard to make sure everything was good.

I even made the mistake of thinking we were checking out on Saturday, instead of Friday. They offered to work with us to get us a place to stay for the night.

We ended up driving home that night. However, I was super thankful for their kind gesture.

If you’d like to book a stay with Cabins of the Smokies you can do so by heading to their website. We have stayed here many times, even before it was a comped stay and we’ve always had a great time.

Special Mention – Pigeon Forge Snow

I wanted to give a shout out to Pigeon Forge Snow for having us! We were able to try out their facility and it was so fun.

Hannah was able to give it a try all by herself and she has a great time. If you’re in the area, I’d encourage you to try it out.

Since a lot of people don’t get to see snow in the south, Pigeon Forge Snow has brought snow to them.

You can go tubing or play in the snow and my kids had a blast!
