Working out and being active has always been a huge part of my life. However, having kids has made me want to include them in as much fitness as possible. For 2017, I have decided to create a family fitness plan. Here are 7 reasons this has been a huge hit for us and why you should include one for your family.
1. Time together as a family
The #1 reason my family loves our family fitness plan is that we get time together as a family. As my kids get older, I see that they enjoy being with us. Since being outdoors is a passion of mind, it only makes sense that our family has a family fitness plan.
2. A family that works out together stays together
I love this and of course it is not totally true. However, when we have a family fitness plan and spend time being active together, it helps us to bond as a family. There is just something about taking a hike together or training for a 5k together that helps us bond and stay closer than ever.
3. Being healthy is always our goal
I am a fitness guru for myself, but I want to teach my kids to love fitness and being healthy. I don’t run behind them yelling “RUN FASTER.” I teach my kids to love fitness and eating healthy. It’s something that brings us joy and does not feel like a burden to our family. I also hope you will find that balance with your family as well. It is a great balance to find.
4. Family fitness plans help you to encourage each other
Life is busy and goals fall to the wayside. I feel as though a family fitness plan helps us to encourage each other. When we want to accomplish something for the day, I look at our family fitness plans. It’s easy to look at what we have set for ourselves goal wise. It is a great way to encourage each other as well.
5. Personal growth is a big thing
My kids are getting older and so are my husband and I. Personal growth is a big thing when it comes to our family fitness plan. While we want to be physically healthy, it is also vital that we are growing on a personal level. Personal growth can be anything! Whether it means treating others with kindness or being able to tolerate someone that you couldn’t stand before. It’s amazing how being healthy also ties in with our emotions.
6. Plans are always a good thing
People talk about their menu planning and financial goals for the year, what about fitness goals? While I could plan for myself for being healthy, I think it’s vital to include my family. They don’t want to be left behind!
7. You love teaching your kids
I have learned a lot about being active and eating healthy, I want to pass this on to mu kids. While I know, they are watching me, I also want them to know that they can learn from me. I like to talk to my kids about our family fitness plan. Whether we are cooking a healthy meal or going on a walk together, we always talk about what we are doing and why.
I would love to hear about your family’s family fitness plan!
