October Breast cancer awareness

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October Breast cancer awareness

Many of us have been touched by breast cancer, though loved ones, friends, or ourselves. Overcoming the initial shock, emotions, pain, and uncertainty is at times overwhelming.

This annual campaign increases awareness of the disease and reminds women to take steps to make a plan to detect the disease in the early stages.

October’s my favorite month to watch NFL games. Players in their pink shoes, belts, gloves, or socks remind me every year to make an appointment for my mammogram. Since I can’t always rely on my love of football to remind me, this year I decided to create an Early Detection Plan.

It took 3 minutes to sign up and I will receive reminders for self breast exams, clinical breast exams, and, since I turned 40, mammograms.

There are many individuals and groups who support the National Breast Cancer Foundation besides the NFL.

One organization efforts comes from C4 Belts raising money, awareness, and education for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

If you’re in need of a belt, or just want to show support, C4 has partnered with NBCF for this year’s #Care4thecause fundraiser.

Use code: Care4thecause to get a $5 discount off your purchase and $5 will be donated to NBCF.

And when you post a picture of your purchase with the hashtag #Care4thecause, and C4 will donate an additional $5 to NBCF.

I live with my twin girls and husband at the base of the Rocky Mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the summer I like to run, hike, and camp. In the winter I like to snow shoe, cross country ski and cozy up to a stack of novels. My family delights me with their love, humor, and desire to go on outdoor adventures with me from catching butterflies to dipping toes in rivers, to making s'mores up the canyon. I earned a Master of Professional Communication at Westminster College and was marketing manager for the Utah Symphony & Opera Deer Valley Music Festival and Program Director at Brighton Girls Camp. Both opportunities fueled my love for the outdoors.
