Weatherproof your clothes now for winter with Nikwax
It seems like just yesterday that Summer had arrived to thaw out the frozen residents around the country. Now, as summer is officially drawing to a close it’s time to start preparing ourselves for the long, and cold, Winter months that loom ahead of us. One way residents of the Northern states have of getting ready for the winter is to start making sure we have all of the necessary preparations nailed down before the snow and ice arrive; this includes waterproofing our clothes to keep the chill and the water from seeping through while we’re out and about or playing outdoors. With Nikwax this step in our winter preparedness is easier than ever.
Founded by Nick Brown, who was brought up in Kent and was no stranger to trekking across the Peaks with his Father, Nikwax was founded after Nick became dissatisfied with the waterproofing products available to him. Wanting something that wouldn’t compromise the structure of his boots, Nick set about to creating his own recipe for waterproofing, which would put him on the map with his own waterproofing products in the future.
At just 22 years old, Nick mixed his first order of Nikwax with just a discarded tea urn, a primus stove, a jug and materials from a local hardware store and sold his products as an outdoor trade; before he knew it he was selling his Nikwax products in 8 different countries. Nikwax products were so effective that it set the standard for a new breed of aftercare products.
In 1983, determined to find a new, easy and clean ways to waterproof garments, Nick developed an entirely novel approach approach that would replace harmful solvents that are found in other waterproofing products. Thus Nikwax Water-Based Range was created and was the first company in the world to produce a range of water-based products for restoring waterproofing in the home. Today, Nikwax has expanded to include waterproofing products from ropes to tents and almost anything else that requires help to maintain its resistance to water.
