Getting the Family Active This Summer
Do you find it challenging to keep your family active? During the winter months it seems to be extra difficult, but summer time provides a lot of activities that can get the whole family active. From heading outdoors, or going to the pool, you can allow everyone to have fun without ever realizing that they are being active and leading a healthier lifestyle than most. Sitting on the couch all summer will benefit no one, so get out there and get active!
Start by figuring out what your family likes to do. What would they enjoy? Making them do things they don’t want to do will result in complaints and arguments. Maybe your children love to ride bikes, head to a bike trail in your local area for the afternoon. If they like to swim, you can take them to the beach, a local pool, or sign up for a membership for a local family organization such as the YMCA. The YMCA, if in your area, has tons to offer for families from swimming and tennis to yoga and workouts, it’s worth the small monthly investment year round.
You could also make it a challenge for your family. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of motivation to get them active. Make it a competition and have the prize be something like whoever wins gets to choose the weekend getaway location this year. A simple gold star sticker chart works great for a Get Active Challenge. Make sure you write activities down that work for all family members or unique ones for each member as far as what they can handle doing and their ages.
Getting your family active is important to keep them in shape. See what your city has to offer for active families, you might be able to sign up for a few charity walks going on in your area which will benefit local charities and keep everyone active throughout the summer.
