Children’s Nature Learning: Live Butterfly Garden

Growing Butterflies in your home can be a great learning experience.

We purchased our butterfly kit from Amazon. It’s called the “Insect Lore Live Butterfly Garden”. It costs $13.77 and well worth it!

We fed the caterpillars in their jar and watched them grow.

The kids loved checking on their caterpillars.

After about 10 days they formed a chrysalis on the top of the jar and we placed them inside the butterfly house.

Then we waited.

The first two butterflies hatched about the same time, but only one of the two made it.

This was very heartbreaking for my son, but such an incredible lesson to teach.

It was exciting and fun.

The butterflies knew what to do and flew off! butterfly activity

After you’ve released your butterflies, you can order replacement caterpillars for only $5! This is totally something we will do again.
