How to Enjoy Winter in Utah

No Need to Hibernate – How to Enjoy Utah in the Winter

When you think of winter, you probably think of sitting indoors and not going outside. Well, I can tell you from experience that you do not need to hibernate. Living in Utah during the winter months does not call for hibernation, it calls for a celebration. To get you in the active spirit this Winter, I have partnered with 3 other bloggers to help you get outdoors this winter. We’ve put together a 365 Mile Challenge. The goal is simple, one self-propelled mile a day in 2017.

Here is how you can get outside this winter in Utah.

Before you head outside

Make sure you are dressed for outside success. Some people don’t like being outside in the winter because they are not dressed successfully. Before you head outside make sure you layer your clothing. Layering is a good idea, just in case you get to warm, you can remove clothing. I love layering because it helps keep me warm during the winters in Utah. Of course, you’ll also want to make sure you have the right gear and shoes. There is nothing worse than wet feet, while outside in the winter. Grab a pair of waterproof shoes that are sturdy and that can withstand the Utah winters.

Where to go in Utah during the winter

Trying to figure out where to go in the winter months can give you a headache. You just want to spend some time outside but aren’t sure where to start.

Getting out there and hiking during the winter months is one smart move. Healthy Hikes from Intermountain Healthcare has a resource that can help you figure out what hikes to take . Anything from challenging hikes to easy hikes, they have you covered. Hiking is the perfect winter activity.

Be sure to tell a friend where you’re going

Take safety precautions and always tell someone where you’re going. It is always a good thing to hike in groups as well. A quick text never hurt anyone!

What to bring on when headed outdoors this winter

I am a fan of making sure I am prepared. When I am going to be outdoors, I make sure to bring the right stuff along. Some things that I may bring along, include the following.

  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Sunblock
  • Cell phone
  • Camera
