8 Fun Things to Do When Visiting NYC with Kids
You want to go to New York City. That’s great. You are traveling with your kids. That’s exciting. The problem: there are a lot of times that the things that the adults want to see and do are not the things that are going to keep the kids entertained. That can lead to whiney and cranky kids, which can lead to stressed and unhappy parents.
If you are planning a trip with the kids to NYC, think about planning the trip around things that the kids will enjoy. It works as a great way to compromise and keep the amount of melt downs to a minimum. There are a lot of fun things in New York City that will lead to happy memories and fun times.
Queens Zoo: The Queens Zoo is a smaller zoo that is a great way to spend the afternoon or early morning with the kids. The kids will delight in seeing the sea lions being feed or taking part in the conservation quests.
Wavehill: Wavehill is a 28-acre public botanical garden, that feature family programs. Even just a walk through the gardens will delight kids who can burn a little extra energy while smelling the flowers.
Prospect Park: This 500-acre park has 4 nature trails to hike, has electric boats tours, an Audubon center and the Imagination playground. During the summer months, there are special story times and free movies.
Floyd Bennett Field: Now part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, it used to be a New York City airport. The old airfield has been turned into a historic center that has a 1950’s nose hanger with an authentic aircraft on display.
Chelsea’s Pier Indoor Ice Rink: Take the kids ice skating all year round at the Ice Rink in Chelsea’s Pier.
Liberty Science Center: Liberty Science Center has more things for kids to explore and interact with than they could do in a day. From the Imax Dome Theater to the 12,800 square foot interactive Skyscraper, to the iExplore, kids will be entertained from start to finish.
Central Park: Central Park has enough things to explore that it can be a small adventure to a large adventure that can take all day. Explore the Castle visitor centers, the playground, the zoo, or fishing.
Legoland: What kid doesn’t love Legos? Now they can walk into a building that features Lego’s everywhere that they can play with, build with and create with.
